BRP-Rotax

FSAE / Formula Student

Formula SAE® is a student design competition organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers. The concept behind Formula SAE is that a fictional manufacturing company has contracted a design team to develop a small Formula-style race car. Judging is based not only on performance of the vehicle, but also ease of manufacture, costs etc.

McGill University chose a single cylinder 4 stroke, 450cc Rotax engine for their car controlled by an Omex 710 ECU to allow mapping of the dual stage injectors and twin spark plugs. With this, they achieved a fantastic 1st place in the important Fuel Economy section of the 2009 World competition at Michigan International Speedway, showing what can be acheived with careful mapping of the Omex ECU's highly accurate fuel and ignition controls.
